The Figures series
of works was borne out of a desire to discipline and effectualise the quantity
and efficacy of the number of lines needed to portray a given shape. These
works have been an ongoing type of exploration into tone, paint density and
simplicity combined with rigorous exactitude in applying the paint in specific
lines. First shown in Mayfair in 2001, William is continuing his paintings in
this series, one per year.
